Castelviejo,
Spain, 30 x 48 - $7,000
The heart of Spain is the rocks that left this glorious country
up almost as high as the Alps. But imagine - the heart is so
ancient that its blood is the wind and the sun and all that is
green. Here a castle sits over a stone town on the plains towards
Burgos. |

Man of the Land - Asturias
"High in the Picos de Europa we met a gentle old man who
was cultivating his tiny plot of land. He had time to pause and
speak to us and we could see that the silence of the place had
entered his soul and that his little piece of earth was sufficient.
Not far from here we encountered cowherds speaking their quiet
Asturiano language. |

This is Spain - Extremadura
A broad valley near Extremadura throbs to the insects and the
beat of oxen pulling their creaking cart and the sun that burns
into your memory. Finally, it is all of part of your being -
the dust, the smell, the wind, the sun. This is Spain. |

The Green Sweep of Spain - Andalusia
Parts of Spain, especially in Andalusia where there poppies grow,
seem inhospitable to life, but look closer and everywhere there
is color. In the most unlikely place: water, wind, birdsong,
flowers. |

Two Boys with Harmonica, La Paz, Bolivia (24" x 30", oil, 1960)
The clothes of these young men tell a story significant to the
epoch when the Spanish Conquest of South America changed ancient
Bolivian culture from Incaic to 16th-century European. The knee-britches,
loose shirt, embroidered, velvet jacket, and round, felt hat
are typically Spanish of that period. |

molded around a form; the dress is 16th-century European style.
In the background stands a Pisac woman wearing a typical tribal
hat. |
